The Lego BTS set has been announced, and if you hear a high-pitched Little Miss Sunshine-level shrieking on the breeze, please stop. But, there are no guarantees.
The 749-piece "Dynamite" set features all seven members of the K-pop behemoth relaxing on the set of their smash hit, which broke YouTube's 24-hour record with more than 100 million views in a day in 2020. It also broke the record for most comments on a YouTube video.
The kit, made by two 20-year-old fans, features adorable Lego models of RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V, and Jungkook dressed in their video outfits — I can't stop staring at V's little waistcoat get-up. They're strewn about among little buildable sets of pastel-hued, '70s-style venues like the retro burger and doughnut shop, ice cream truck, record store, basketball court, and the all-important discothèque, complete with a massive DISCO sign. There is also a brief BTS segment.
You can put a turquoise-haired RM in a record store surrounded by Lego "Dynamite" vinyls, send Jungkook to toast that donut, or have V dance next to the ice cream truck.
Only a few days ago, Lego teased a BTS release on Twitter. The BTS set is not from their label BigHit or their agency HYBE. It is part of the Lego Ideas platform, where anybody can submit their own set designs and others can vote on whether or not they should be made. The "Dynamite" set was created by Josh, a 20-year-old designer from Indiana, and Jacob, a 21-year-old BTS fan from New York. Lego approved their proposal after it earned 10,000 views on the Ideas website.
"Josh did the construction and design work, and as a great BTS fan, I told him what needed to be in it, what details were most important," Jacob said in a Lego news release.
"Jacob had Tremendous expertise, and he was able to steer my build in the right direction," Josh said in a statement. "I watched the music video several times, striving to capture its soul in Lego bricks."
Beginning in early March 2023, the BTS "Dynamite" Lego set will be available for purchase on Lego's website and in stores for US$99.99 (£89.99 / €99.99).
Here's the video because the music is already stuck in your head.
